Left Overs

The least appealing, and to my mind, least talented Beatles got together recently.

Here’s the story. You will notice that Ringo is still getting the short stick.

My order does actually put Ringo last; but, it puts McCartney third after Lennon and Harrison, giving a bit of the edge to John over George.

But Ringo is the only one I am (allegedly) related to ...

I think that requires explanation.

"requires" is such a strong word.

Ringo's real name is Richard Starkey. My great great grandmother was a Starkey. And family lore says that there is a crazy branch and a not so crazy branch of Starkeys, and that Ringo is from the crazy branch.

Of course, this is from the same mouth that soberly assured me that we were related to Pocahontas too.

I take it all with several grains of salt.

I put George at the front, followed by John, Ringo, and then Paul.

Somehow Paul ended up with the most hits, but they're almost all completely devoid of any emotional punch; pop fluff.

The way I see it, Ringo probably wouldn't care where he was ranked. I always got the suspicion he was (and still is) just along for the ride, playing his drums and having a grand time on the way.

Thanks Pos. Thomas, I can accept your rankings. And Wes, you may well be right.

Remember, Ringo was a contract hire originally... when Pete Best was dropped. Then came "A Hard Days Night" and he was forever one of the Fab Four.

I think you're too hard on Sir Paul. Part of it, I suppose, is that he was the girls' favorite and therefore stigmatized, a little, with the Teen Idol curse. But -- if there's a lot of 'fluff' in a typical McCartney album -- there's usually something very listenable as well. I think he's written a lot of standards that will outlive us all.

If Lennon hadn't have been assassinated... well, he might have accumulated a more impressive body of work. I really liked some of the songs on Double Fantasy (the last album released in his lifetime) and "Nobody Told Me" (from the posthumous Milk and Honey album) is a personal favorite.

How could you call the writer of "Silly Love Songs" the least talented?!

You're a cruel man, Dave.

PS-a person calling himself Posol'stvo the Medved is not considered crazy? Maybe a "little touched"?

Ringo Starr - Officially the Luckiest Man Alive. He was only a passable drummer who hooked up to the right wagon. Good for him.

I am a little young to swoon over the Beatles, I am a Zep fan to the core.
