A Short Self Promotional Post

I held a meeting with myself at lunch and voted that the firm would take a sabbatical this afternoon. It turned out to be a great success.

The activity planned and executed was a round of golf. Eight over. Four Birdies. Damn it all, two doubles. No "gimmee putts," all were legit, from a fair distance, one about forty feet, uphill over a tier with a slight break.

Yes, I'm pleased with me.

Those are alway great meetings. Things get done and everybody present is happy.

Damn, and I was feeling proud of myself because I snuck in one last round, out in British Columbia, on Friday. October 26th. The latest I have ever golfed in Canada.
And, I didn't golf nearly as well as you. Although I did nearly get my last putt in the clown's mouth.

Sonja, I never have a problem with a quorum.

Bob, I grew up in Michigan and luckily didn't play golf. Down here we are a couple of weeks away from the "we'll make a tee time and see what happens season." I have a personal rule that I don't play unless it's fifty degrees when I start. I've played on New Years Day. Today it was about seventy degrees when I started. I have a tee time tomorrow and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Good job, Dave.

I think.

Golf was just simply a habit I have never gotten into. The few times I have tried it, I discovered that I drive pretty well, chip pretty well, but couldn't putt my way out of a Wendy's drivethrough. I didn't even keep score.

Ah, the pleasures of not working for The Man. I almost envy you, but my workplace is pretty accommodating of time off (especially since we have to come in at odd hours or weekends to do some of our testing). Plus golf is not my thing (too many times I swing and miss - very embarrassing and frustrating).

Is golf a requirement for a degree in law or medicine?

Dave said...

Fermi, a swing and miss is defined as a practice swing, I've made a few over the years.

Doc, it maybe on the curriculum. I only took it up eight or nine years ago because my friends played. Before golf, I played pool. Before pool, it was photography. Before that tennis. Once I get "good" at a hobby I loose interest. The great thing about golf is that I'll never be good at it.

Golf is a good walk ruined. Mark Twain said that. Of course there's nothing better than being outside on a nice day when you're supposed to be working. :)

Hedy, first, it's a "good walk SPOILED" per Google, which is less damning than ruined.

Second, the walk is for the most part, the best part about it. Wandering about the course, often including places where no golfer was meant to be is part of the attraction.

Third, and most importantly, now and again, seldom, I fully admit, Tiger can't hit a better shot that I'm able to at that one fatefull moment. MasterCard has done a whole ad campaign about it. See were that led? Way behind Visa.

dave - I swing and miss a few times per hole. That is why I quit playing.

Anger, frustration and irritation are not what I need from my recreational activities. Hmmm, makes me wonder why I keep attending Georgia Tech football games...

This year at least, Putt Putt may be more attractive than Tech football Fermi. I've never whiffed with a putter, though I have shanked a few.

Ah, having a firm grasp of physics helps one a great deal in putt putt (and also billiards). As for GT football, I am torn between still wanting them to do well in the remaining games, and hoping the misery will continue and cause a coaching change. What to do? What to do?

Earth to Dave. Earth to Dave. Step away from the tee. Put the clubs in the bag and no one will be hurt. Time to return to BLOGGING! How doggone long can a golf game last anyway?

Roger! Over and Out!

Thanks for noticing Jeni. It hasn't been golf. Work of all things. Trial on Monday, problems yesterday, a hearing today.

I was getting a tad bit worried myself.

My mind always jumps to the worst possible scenerio (i.e.: car wrecks, typhoons, fried internet connections, etc.)

Glad to hear you're working ... not dead.

So... "rather than blogging", you are working? ;-)
