Breaking Weather News

For anyone that doesn't live in Atlanta, move along now, but do come back next time.

For my fellow Atlantans, at 6:28 p.m. on Monday, the eleventh of June, in The Year Of Our Lord,Two-thousand and Seven, I am hearing thunder, seeing lightning and seeing small drops of water falling from the sky, in what has become the new Sahara Desert. More thunder and lightning than drops, but it may be the start. Yep, I looked out the window and the pavement is damp. Damp, I Say! Could WET PAVEMENT be next?

8:05 p.m. Update: Nah. Cloudy. No thunder. No lightning. The only water around comes out of faucets.

Much the same here. It rained just enough (barely) to sort of, mostly, wet the driveway. Almost.

Very disappointing...

I'll see what I can do about shipping some of our weather down your way. We have had thunderbooming downpours three of the last four days. Not that hot, but humid as all get-out.

Almost rained out my daughter's 8th grade graduation cookout, but stopped just before everyone left.

I am happy to report that when I left my office, there were rain drops, visible, on the grass, the pavement and my car. Not enough to turn the Sahara into even a grainy muddish ball, but I think there's hope.

By the way, Fermi and Sonjab, if you want to read good stuff by someone who seldom writes, go to Posolxstvo's blog: Niagaran Pebbles at posolxstvo1.blogspot.com. It's in the Recommended sidebar. Pos, I'm honored that you commented.

On a totally unrelated subject, Blogger is not sending me emails when someone comments and it is making me type in my username and password to post a comment on my very own blog.

Well, Dave, you have been honoring me thusly for a while. It's the least I can do to exit my cave and find out what other people are doing and writing.

And I hope you noticed that there were four posts in the last two days. Probably some kind of a record for me.

As for you not getting notifications and having to log in to comment on your own blog, that sounds really messed up. I can only assume that A. you've checked your settings and B. you haven't made any changes to your browser that would prevent you from setting cookies/session objects.

Oh, and one other comment for you, as long as I am writing War and Peace over here -- I noticed that the link to HedyBlog in your sidebar was mis-directed... You might check that when you get a chance, as she doesn't sound like someone you want to have angry at you for very long.

I fixed Hedy. That doesn't read quite right. The link to the estimable HedyBlog works. For those who have suffered in silence due to my lack of basic skill, Hedy in all her glory is available. That doesn't sound just right either.

Ah, if fixing me were only that easy...thanks, Dave. :)

It's pouring as we speak. Thank goodness, because I was getting damned tired of smelling smoke every morning from the neighboring counties' wildfires. Hopefully this will help the firemen out.

Hey Jon and Becky,

Thanks for stopping by. Still almost no rain here. We got some thunder storms last night that rolled through quickly leaving downed trees and not much water. More predicted for tonight.

I dunno... tonight started out seeming sort of promising with the dark skies, but now it isn't looking so good for rain. I'm not sure what part of Atlanta you're in and that makes a big difference.

I live near Tucker. I think there is some kind of anti-rain bubble over my house. It can rain everywhere around here and not a drop at home. We got a decent shower yesterday, but only a couple of sprinkles today.

North Druid Hills and 85. 85 is probably a big heat sink that creates an inversion that, well, you're the scientist?

I am convinced thought that "the City" does divert weather north and south of it. Have you ever noticed that exteme weather will be most exteme south of I-20 and through Paulding and Cobb, skirting 285? I'm not sure how south Atlanta and the airport fit into that theory, but, I'm sticking to it.

I had enough precipitation over here to make the bird crap on my windshield run.

Excuse me, I have to return to my raindance now.

Also, there's plenty of water in my pool. Come on over. Bring alcohol.

Mist,

Don't park under trees. If they aren't falling on things, they're perches for crap dropping birds.

I have heard meteorologists talk of a heat effect created by densely populated areas that causes some storms to skirt around big cities.

The same thing seems to happen in Nashville sometimes, especially in winter.

I was up in the mountains all week at camp with the teens and the temps were pleasant. In the 80's during the day and 50's at night. Got back to the valley yesterday and was greeted with 110 degrees. Yuck! Why do I live here again?

A couple of years ago we went 146 straight days with not a drop of rain.

I remember just a short while ago Atlanta was where the drought was and Memphis always had rain. That ended this year and now Texas has it all.
