Scary

A good friend, very smart, of a conservative frame of mind, told me today he’s bought a gun in the event that McCain pulls out a win. He was serious.

If he thinks like this, this country is in a world of hurt.

Well,ya know, I suppose there are some who, if McCain wins, will respond to the news in a way that many of us may consider to be none too civilized. The world and yes, this country, is full of lots and lots of crackpots and lunatics, for sure. One would hope some fringe elements will not react in a violent manner -kind of defies a lot of what Obama stands for then. But then, some people believe in act now, think much, much later, when the realization sets in that violence only begets more of the same. But how does one change a mindset like that?

I think things are going to get worse, but I don't think they're going to get apocalyptic. I don't think we're looking at a Mad Max scenario. I'm not sure a gun is really going to do him a lot of good.

I think the standard of living might drop to what America was in the 50s- smaller homes, fewer cars, less stuff- but really, the 50s weren't all that bad.

Well you know what they say about the '50s... "Republicans want to live in the '50s. Democrats want to work there."

Personally, I think things are going to get scary after an Obama win. No political generation in my memory has acted as 'entitled' as the Reagan/Bush conservatives. They are not going to take this repudiation of their philosophy well.

There are concerns about what may happen in Chicago tomorrow night if Obama wins since nearly a million people are expected to descend on the Loop to be near a tickets-only outdoor rally in Grant Park.

But I'm pretty sure that's a purely local concern.

Maybe he bought it because of Obama's view of the 2nd Amendment as an individual right.

I heard someone at work say this very same thing today. Which leads me to believe they both got it from some kookhead talk radio jerk. *sigh*

Which comment are you referring to, fermicat?
