I'm Wireless

This post comes to you courtesy of a wireless Internet connection. I am a happy cyber-camper.

Testing the connection showed that it is faster than my office DSL by about double on downloads and about the same speed on uploads.

As an aside for those who read my unhappy posts last month about DHL's incompetence, I should note that it delivered the wireless card this morning on time.

Wireless information is great. Stay away from the wireless electricity, though.

Alrighty...

Blogger just ate my comment.

I enjoy blogger about as much as DSL losing my stuff.

It's good to use a personal firewall (other than windows) to safegaurd against hacks when connecting in places other than your home. I use Norton and hate it. I will be changing soon.

Wireless is cool, but not nearly as secure as a wired connection.

Ron,

I stay away from all electricity, in contrast to Ryan. I you haven't read his construction exploits, well you have to...

Ryan,

As a follow up to my response to your comment on my Vista experience, I hate Norton, to which I got a free subscription with Vista. I haven't taken it; but, AVG is having a personality conflict with Vista currently as is ZoneAlarm. I'm left with Windows Defender which seems oxymoronish to me.

My "wireless" is through Cingular, not a wireless router or WiFi. I think it has less vulnerability to hacks and freeloaders than they do; but, I can find little at Cingular or on the Net to confirm or rebut the thought. If you know anything about it, let me know.

I love our wireless network. Right now, I am using my laptop in the kitchen, and nothing is plugged in. We also use a wireless connection to pipe music from iTunes on the Mac downstairs to the receiver and big speakers upstairs. Very handy. We use the Mac as our jukebox, and keep all our CDs in the closet after copying them to the computer.
