Proper Parenting

"YPSILANTI, Mich. — A married couple — first the husband, then his wife — were arrested within hours, each on suspicion of drunken driving.

Ypsilanti police told The Ann Arbor News they stopped the man and gave him a preliminary breath test after watching him allegedly run a red light Saturday night.

Police said it registered above the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol limit. He had his 12-year-old son in the car with him.

Police told the boy to call his mother to pick him up.

After she arrived, with her 9-year-old daughter in the car, the woman was tested and found to be above the legal limit, police said.

Both children were turned over to a relative until the parents were determined to be sober."

I don't have enough information to comment on the specifics of this situation, but I can say that this type of thing can happen a lot more if people aren't careful.

At the risk of sounding preachy, cause I have no intention of being so, this type of thing is, among a great many others, one of the reasons why I felt that it was best for me and my family for me to give up CH3CH2OH.

Why couldn't the lady leave her child out of harm's way? Now she and her husband all being blown up in the news.

They were turned over to a relative until the parents were determined to be sober? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

I recently heard two seperate recordings of 911 calls where children were in a car with a parent driving drunk and the kids were the ones talking to the dispatcher describing the parents driving. Absolutely incredible man. In both of these cases, the officers found the vehicles in question, the kids were not harmed (although I would bet they were emotionally harmed), and the parents were arrested.

As Bill Engvall would say, "Here's your sign."
