I hope for not long...

you'll have to do the word verification thing. Starting a couple of weeks ago, and accelerating, I'm getting comment spam. In the last few days, it has spread from the original french to two english spam messages. I suppose I could just delete them like I've been doing; but, my hope is that the program that's sending them will quit when it "finds out" that it can't leave its spawn over a period of time.

So, sorry over the short term, if it doesn't work, I'll go back to the open commenting and just angrily hit delete when I see the spam.

Dave - I certainly do understand and appreciate your position -been having the same problems myself. I have an e-mail address that I got sometime ago and which I can use to forward spam from my e-mail to that place. Supposedly it is a govt. run site that is trying to eradicate at least some of the spam. But boy, I wish they had a site where one could report the spam comments to as well! I've put the word verification on, removed it, put it back on again and it is such a pain to keep making those adjustments but I wonder if that does any more good than just deleting them at the time they come in. However, I may as well give it another go with the word verification as I think it is a little easier to blip them out when they aren't actually showing up on the blog, isn't it?

Word verification for this comment: "gatedd". Just thought you'd like to know.

My spam is usually in Chinese. I think. Which is why I went to word verification a few weeks back myself.

I suppose we should be pleased that the creators of the mindless spam generators think our blogs are 'big' enough to boost traffic of their clients.

Or not.

Just trying to find the silver-lining.

I don't have word verification on, but I do, now, have comment moderation for posts older than 14 days. It has prevented you all from accidentally finding Russian language spam comments and the like. Oddly, no spam comments on the newer posts.

Perhaps they think that we will have forgotten about our old posts?

That's interesting Pos. The spam I was getting was on three or four old posts, nothing new. I haven't bothered to delete them.

I don't think I get a lot of traffic on year old posts.

Maybe we're dealing the the Internet Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight.
