An Open Letter to Georgia Rep. Paul Broun

Yesterday I printed an AP story on what the titled U.S. Representative had to say about the to be President. It seems the good man is back tracking a bit. In news articles he’s saying that he regrets what he said. From AJC.com:

“'The point I tried to make is that he is extremely liberal, he has promoted a lot of socialistic ideas, and it just makes me concerned,' Broun said Tuesday."

I wasn’t going to do a post about this again, I tried to send the good man an Email; but, it seems he doesn’t accept them from outside his district.

So here’s the Email:

Dr. Broun,

With all of the restraint I can muster, you are an idiot.

I could go on about the differences between Socialism, Marxism, Fascism and Liberalism; but, I suspect they would be lost on you. Or would they? Liberalism isn’t a popular word. Even they call themselves Progressives these days.

It probably wouldn’t rouse your rabble if you were left with calling Obama a mere liberal, after all, he is. But the conflicting labels, there you’ve got an idea, absent a linguistic or historical base; but, an idea none-the-less.

Us Americans don’t like those Socialists, Marxists and Fascists. We don’t bother to differentiate among them. We just know that we fought all of them in wars. They must be bad, different bad maybe, but bad all the same.

Education doesn’t solve all ills as evidenced by the fact that you have an M.D. What very much worries me is that among the almost fifty million people in America that voted against Obama, there are, I fear, many people that are cheering you on. Genuine, objective opposition I can handle, I have friends and family that oppose the new President.

Stupidity bothers me though. We aren’t talking ignorance here given your education. Stupidity is the only word that describes your comments, unless you have an agenda.

Which brings to mind the classic movie, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Remember the guy run out of the hall on the rail? A little shorter and fatter than you are; but, isn’t there a resemblance? Come now, don’t deny it.

Sincerely, not Respectfully,

Dave.

Geez, Dave -the first line in that latter and I was afraid I'd have to call the EMTs here to rescue me from a coughing, choking fit! I started reading your letter with the thought in my mind that you would write this really prim and proper thing -skewer him, yes, but do it all politely and such and then you come around, right off the bat and call the man an idiot!
Such a dangerous -but really good - move all the same! Unexpected. Get 'em with their pants down type thing there! Thankfully, I recovered from the shock of that first line and snickered my way through the rest of your piece.

His comments are only slightly worse than some I have overheard around my workplace. People need to get a grip.

The dumbing of america has never been more apparent than with the comments made by this backwoods rep. from Georgia. George Bush and his henchmen have made their careers by GESTAPO tactics with their above reproach and indecent self seving agendas. eight years of lies and deceipt has nearly destroyed our global standing and our economy . President Obama is about accountability and strength with an agenda to heal this country and give back to the people the type of leadership we have been denied for so long. No more sucker punch politics from the right wing please it is old , boring and just plain wrong. Shame on Broun for not having the smarts to know that he has been out classed, out smarted and out dated. Go back to Georgia and help bring your state into the new millenium. "Is you learning"?

It is, sadly, the sort of thing one reads routinely online these days. It says something, though, about the venom level in the country that it has wicked up to the level of a Congressman.

Well said, Dave.

OK, who is going to go ape shit on "anonymous"?

Dalec - i too find anon's comments a bit hipocritical.

It is interesting how all of a sudden folks are concerned about the level of discourse regarding the president. Apparently such indignation is reserved for attacks on dems and 8 years of calling Bush every name in the book was OK.
