A Small Critique
President-elect Obama had a news conference today. This post isn’t about the consulting with all of the living ex-presidents/Nancy Reagan gaffe or the puppy thing.
Soon to be Presidents don’t need a backdrop of hanger-ons, even soon to be Vice Presidents and Chiefs of Staff. Backdrops of unnecessary officials are for candidates, police chiefs and union leaders. Presidents and Presidents-elect have a podium, some red, white and blue and a flag.

Well, the Beatles didn't need a backdrop of movies stars on their Sgt. Pepper album, they just did it because it was cool.
This was the political equivalent. ;)
I read in the New York Times this morning that he did it to show 'he's busy working on the economic challenge with his team of experts' or something to that effect. I don't have a problem with his Sgt. Pepper moment (nice analogy, thomaslib), but I sure as hell hope they come up with a solution that is both pragmatic and non-partisan or it aint' gonna fly.
For those of you who commented on how "diverse" the RNC looked...did you note Obama's backdrop?
To take a small detour, I did notice today that Obama had two black and one white Secret Service Agents in the picture when he got out of his Suburban in Chicago today at the airport.
Good for Obama, I want to know who is surounding the next President.
Secret Service is all about skill, not bogus "diversity". I hope ou new President selects his administration with the same criteria. Their will always be some politics required, as evidenced by the presence of eh Governor of Michigan on the economic transition team. I guess somebody has to be able to tell ou what NOT to do.
