Gullywasher

Not totally true. But:

It has been raining, non-stop for a good half hour.

At a point in this minor deluge, I could hear the rain resonating down the fireplace chimney, a sure sign of copious water.

At about that time, DirecTv told me it was searching for signal on one of the receivers. That is serious waterage.

Fermi, has the bubble over the house broken?

Hah hah. The bubble broke on Saturday. Apparently all it takes is for us to have a cookout with lots of grilling to do. Maybe we should have tried that back in June. We have had a decent amount of rainfall here during the last week or so.

They keep telling me this is about to happen here in Arizona--the "Monsoon Season"--so far it is just hot as all get out--111 degrees.

Ah, Becky, but it's a "dry" heat, like an oven on low.

So it's a gullywasher. But is it a frog-strangler?

I am thinking a weenie roast.

We need to develop some scientific nomenclature. That may be difficult given the geographic differences among us. I'll be right back, I'm going to visit the source of all internet useless knowledge, Google. I that doesn't work, I'm going to Wikipedia.

I don't like the result, but here's what thesaurus.com says for gullywasher:

August gale, big blow, black blizzard, blast, blizzard, blow, cloudburst, coming down, cyclone, disturbance, downpour, drift storm, gale, goose winter, gully washer, gust, heavy dew, heavy wet, hurricane, monsoon, nor'wester, precip*, robin storm, sheep storm, smelt storm, snowstorm, squall, tempest, tornado, twister, whirlwind, whiteout, windstorm.

Unacceptable.

Merriam-Webster has no entry for any version of gully washer or frog strangler.

OK, I've spent ten minutes wandering the Web. I've found definintions for gully and frog phenomena. None of my sources indicate which is more severe.

I leave it up to you my faithful readers. And thanks.

We're suppose to have a storm move in tomorrow evening.

I can't wait...but I'm addicted to storms.
