I'm Alive...

there just isn't anything happening that inspires me to write about it. Not writer's block. I have subject blues.

That being the case, I'm going to tackle further research on setting up my new website. Content is all written. I just have to wade through getting a template that doesn't look stupid, getting a host (though I think I have that close to done), getting a credit card merchant account and meshing all of them together.

Fermi, you know any bright young Tech IT student that's brilliant but works cheap?

Nope! Sorry.

Damn. Back to wading through the junk. I hate sites that assume you know what their jargon means.

I'm glad you're alive. I know about subject blues. Hang in there.

What type of site are you setting up Dave?

Credit Card Account?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks Hedy.

The site Ryan will offer advice and forms for Homeowners who are about to remodel, renovate, repair, add on to their house.

It's an area that I've seen over the years that could use some legal advice that doesn't get it because "one on one" consultation is too expensive, even if someone offered it (I always talked to them for free for a few minutes and sent them on their way after telling them what I charged).

Dave -- as you seem like a decent guy who wouldn't take advantage of my good nature, if I can help you with any jargon translation, let me know. It's one of my job functions...

Pos, Thanks. I'll save you for a last resort. I can usually figure things out, they just don't make it easy.

I've always thought I'd be great at a job that looked at what technical types did, that worked fine for such types, but turned out to be incomprehensible for the rest of us. Though Microsoft has done all right with its arcanery.

Dave, the job you are describing has many names, but is in essence User Experience Direction. Most of the crap you see that you hate is the way it is because programmers and those of the programming ilk see no problem whatsoever with figuring out things along the way. In fact, it's part of the fun for them.

Normal human beings don't like that. The User Experience Director or Designer has to tell the programmers HOW to make it usable. For normal people.

If you are curious about such things, check out a book called The Inmates Are Running the Asylum by Alan Cooper.

Well then, that's what I want to be when I grow up.

The problem isn't just part of the tech world. Have you ever listened to two mechanical engineers talking about their work, or, I blush, two lawyers? We speak in lingo, not finishing sentences and understand each other.

One of the best complements I've ever gotten was from a VP of one of my clients, "you don't talk or write like a lawyer, I understand you."

Posol'stvo the Medved said...

That is indeed a high, high compliment.

Thanks for visiting my blog and saying such nice things!

Are you feeling guilty about not posting for three days? Dude, don't ever force it. I post once a week, at that. Just let it flow.

Some people post just for the sake of posting.

Some people comment just for the sake of commenting.

Paul F.,

Ah, duality. Thanks for stopping by. Thanks for stopping by.

I know nothing about anything technical but tend to find that if I give it a threatening stare even my PC does what I want.

Dave...

tic tock tick tock

I agree with Dan to a certain extent, but there comes a point in time where you just have to force it....

You're getting very close to that time.

We are waiting.

Yeah Dave, put down the manuals and turn off the "how to" tutorials and post something.

At least tell us what's in the closet next to your Barney Rubble slippers:-P

I know you're on the other side of the country, but I happen to have attended EVIT for web design. However, I wasn't exactly top of my class. But Jane Martin, the teacher, often arranges for advanced students to build professional web sites for clients free of charge.
It might be worth a shot.
Here's the address: http://evit.com/creativewebdesign.htm

I stressed over how much to write and when, until I finally decided that I would write when the spirit moved me, and not to worry about anybody's expectations. There's no point in blogging if you don't enjoy it, and there's better things to do in life then sit chained to your PC for hours generating blog content.

I'm sure I'd have a lot more traffic if I wrote more, but there are just more important things in life.

Debo, I looked. A stack of boxes with books in them.

Crusader, thanks for the tip.

Doc and Ryan, my response in my latest post.

No problem, I hope it helps.
