Why isn't plastic wrap an inch or so wider?

Not much more to this post than the title. I hate having to be very, very careful pulling the stuff out of the box and not get any wrinkles in it; because, if you get a wrinkle you have to get it out to get it to just, just go over the edges of a plate or a pan. And even if you don't get a wrinkle in it, you've got maybe a quarter of inch to spare. Another inch or two in width would make all the difference.

Can I patent a width?

They want you to use twice as much so you'll buy more. I always use double and sometimes triple wrapping because of that edge issue. It's the same as the idea of panty hose that never run - they'll never get invented.

There are apparently long -- wide? -- rolls of plastic wrap. My wife has them from time to time, usually around the holidays when baking season gets serious.

But I wouldn't hold out great hopes for this as a solution to your problem: The edges here fold over just as easily as on the shorter width of wrap (hmmm -- say that ten times fast) with the result that you still fail to cover the dish as you hoped.

A little extra width sure would be most helpful but sadly, the only thing that is probably ever gonna happen is that the roll gets shorter and the width probably will get smaller too over time.
